Why The Name Black Shirt?

Black shirts stand for rebellion, independence, and the courage to stand apart. We wear black not because it’s easy, but because it means something, a nod to everyone who chooses their own path.
At Black Shirt Brewing Co., that spirit drives everything we do. We don’t chase trends or brew for the mainstream. We craft beer and pizza for the thinkers, doers, and makers who appreciate authenticity.
Our pizza is made entirely from scratch, using the spent grains from our brewing process blended with two Italian flours for depth, texture, and flavor. It’s craft meeting craft and we’re proud of every bite.
Wearing black means owning who you are. Brewing beer and making pizza our way means we own who we are.
Owners
Black Shirt Brewing Co. was founded in 1999 and opened to the public in 2012. Karen and Jimmy Dodson bought the brewery in late December, 2021. Karen and Jimmy have been home brewers for years and dreamed of owning and running a brewery. They had a plan to do this in 2011 in Evergreen, CO but they relocated with work and the dream was delayed, until they came to Black Shirt and met the team, tasted the beer and pizza and feel in love with the vibe and RINO. As the old adage goes, "good things take time." They are excited to join the Black Shirt team as since the opening, Black Shirt has collected many awards and accolades for the quality of their beer, ambiance and customer service. Jimmy and Karen are excited to share their passion for great beer, great food, great friends, great music and great hospitality with old and new customers alike. The history of Black Shirt and the meaning behind the name make this a really special place to share and enjoy with the RINO and greater Denver communities.

Bottlerocket Hurricane, the brilliant brainchild of Denver's Colleen Murphy, a true labor of love brought to life by Colleen Murphy on guitar and vocals, Chadders on banjo, Alex Fostar on fiddle and vocals, Chris Spurlock on bass, and Brian Remple on drums.
With Bottlerocket Hurricane, they truly believe life is for living, and there's no reason to take anything too seriously; with genuine joy and passion, they pour their hearts into the music they create and the moments they share with each other and their audience, crafting songs that will make you laugh, touch your heart, spark reflection, and transport you to places where your feet can't help but boogie, always bringing a spirit of fun, authenticity, and connection whether on stage or in the studio.
Their influences are as diverse as the music they create, ranging from ragtime and bebop to '70s country rock, inspired by icons like Harry Nilsson, the Grateful Dead, Gillian Welch, and Led Zeppelin, yet they're most driven by life itself—the lessons learned, the love shared, and the stories unfolding around them—with the common thread being their ability to take universal experiences and make them profoundly personal, telling relatable stories that resonate with everyone.

Live Music with New Myth
Saturday December 6th
New Myth is a five-piece Denver band fusing mythological storytelling, spiritual undertones, and social commentary into a sound that’s both dark and electric. With dual female and male vocals, driving guitars, keys that shimmer and shadow, and rhythms that pulse like ritual fire, the band channels the spirit of vampire rock, moody, hypnotic, and full of life. Their sound carries echoes of modern folk, blending edge and atmosphere into something deeply human and a little bit otherworldly.

BSB might be a brewery, but they have some of the best pizza in all of Denver. Great flavor and a little char on the undercarriage. And the spicy ranch is incredible too. Plus it’s dog friendly! I am quickly becoming a regular.
